The famous figure skater began his young life as orphan. he was adopted when was only six weeks old. Scott was only a young six- year old when he contracted a rare disease that caused him to stop growing.
The young boy started skating to combat the dangerous effects of his horrible disease. Scott showed great talent, and his small stature was a great asset in the sport of figure skating. His skating almost did not happen, however, because of financial difficulties. A couple saw Scott's dilemma and did not want him to have to halt his skating career. The couple paid for his training so that his goal-ridden path could continue. Scott Hamilton did not disappoint his benefactors, he went on to win four world championships. In 1984, he won his greatest prize, and an athlete highest honor, the Olympic gold medal.
In 1984, he went on to win the corresponding world champion gold medal as well. Scott felt that having achieved the highest level in amateur skating, he decided to turn professional. He joined the infamous "Ice Capades" for two years, but decided to start his own tour now called Stars on Ice. Scott, along with Stars on Ice, has helped to change the face of professional figure skating. Stars on Ice has become the biggest grossing skating tour in the history of the sport. He has also carved himself out a lucrative and successful professional skating career.
In 1997, Scott stunned fans and friends, alike when he announced his diagnosis of testicular cancer. Scott showed the same fierce determination that he had as a young child. He won his battle with cancer, and he returned to the ice. Scott Hamilton even performed his infamous back flip despite his previous run with cancer. Cancer survivors across the globe rejoiced and awe struck seeing his triumphant return to the ice.
Scott Hamilton has established a successful career as one of the top broadcasting career, while being a wonderful husband and father to two young boys. Recently, he had brain surgery to remove a benign brain tumor. Scott Hamilton continues to inspire people all across the world with his determination, artistry, and continuing fighting spirit.
