Johnny Weir Weds Boyfriend
Johnny Weir is an Olympic figure skater who is known for his outspoken comments and flamboyant costumes and programs. Critics and fans known him as a talented, but dramatic creature on and off the ice. Like a flashy pop stars like Lady Gaga or a vamped up Katy Perry, Weir is an ultimate lover of high end fashion and odd performance art. Drama on and off the slippery ice, seems to be this boy's middle name, and that is just how he seems to like it, in fact, he seems to prefer it that way.
Johnny Weir is an artist and he takes the acting element of figure skating very seriously. Known as anything but a wall flower in his community. Johnny Weir turns heads everywhere he goes heads turn and mouths appear to drop. He loves the outrageous and the high-end fashion is a big part of his public and private life. Figure skating is all about the clothes and the drama.
Never one to sit back quietly in the shadows, every time the performer takes the ice, heads turn and mouths appear to drop. While, he is an extraordinary athlete, one seems to pay more attention to his wild presentation than his jumps or intricate spins. The figure skating extraordinaire announced in a recent tweet, that he is in fact, a married man through a New Years wedding to his long time love and boyfriend.
This season seems to be the season of engagements and wedded bliss. Aretha Franklin and pop princess Britney Spears, also got engaged recently. LeBron James, NBA hipster, got married recently as well. Love and all its glory does not always last, just ask Russell Brand and one of Weir's inspirations, singer Katy Perry. Twitter seems to be abuzz with announcements similar to these this season.
Johnny Weir's fans and the larger gay community will be celebrating this victory for rights around the globe. Only time will tell, if true love will last, but I for one, hope the couple is happy until they are old and gray. Whatever happens this new development is sure to influence his art, his drama, and his performance. Romance and possible tragedy always affects one's art and career.
So congrats Johnny Weir, cheers to love. The "Ice Castles" theme has been playing in my head in repeat as I am writing this, and hopefully, now it is playing in yours too.
